A simple contemporary desk to face the view of the garden…

I was conscious that I didn’t want the studio to feel too encroaching on the rest of the space, as or garden isn’t very big. We really wanted to retain the chilled out seating area at the back of the garden as this is a sunny spot most of the day. The studio was built to nestle into the surrounding trees and it felt very fitting to paint the cladding green for softness, we used Farrow and Ball Bancha with has a lovely warmth to it. Tonal green windows and a door add to the drama of the structure. I was really keen to have the door on an angle so it didn’t feel like a rectangle box shape, this also added interest and softness.
The Studio was designed to have an integrated planter on the front for greenery and flowers, to soften the straight lines. It will add a lovely contrasting blue from the Nepeta that has been planted.
Wall to ceiling cupboards, were essential to organise and hideaway everything including the printer. The wooden contemporary doors add a natural feel and detail, connecting with the outside and still in keeping with the modern design. Built in shelving utilises the space adding to the flow, making it feel calm and cohesive feel. The shelves add display space for project samples, styling and add interest.
Designing a connecting standup tiled desk area, creates a zone where plans and details can be laid out for design work. It has great natural light & also lovely pendant lights above to add task lighting above for the darker months. The tiles add texture and interest and it can double up as a desk if need be.
A wall light and angled spots add in layers of lighting that also create ambience. The interior is painted in Masquerade Light - Little Greene and works beautifully with the greens, natural woods, warm earthy tones and the terrazzo style ochre coloured floor tiles to create a light, calm and creative studio space.
