The rooms were a complete blank canvas and the clients wanted their home to reflect their personalities….
…their eclectic taste and love of colour and pattern.
The first phase of this project started back in 2019. The clients wanted to create cosy living spaces in their period cottage. The rooms were a complete blank canvas and they wanted their home to reflect their personalities - their love of colour and pattern and their eclectic taste and interest in all things steampunk. We created purposeful zones to the three adjoined living ares. A TV snug, fireside reading nook with a beautiful vintage apothecary unit and a library to hang out in. Designing bespoke built in shelving to house their book collection. This stopped this space from feeling like just a passage way.
For the more recent phase of the project, we moved to the hallway. Setting the tone for the rest of the downstairs.

The Dining Space
We also worked on the kitchen diner, and In contrast to the dark and moody living spaces we created a more botanical feel adding vine wall paper and more natural textures, enhancing the airy feel of the light flooded dining space.
“We bought a cottage a couple of years ago, and it needed a bit of personality injecting into it. My wife and I approached Hilary and gave her what must have been a pretty confusing, waffly brief encompassing various styles that we liked... we had some measure of the overall aesthetics we were going for in the different rooms but weren’t sure how to translate it. Somehow Hilary managed to interpret our haphazard collective thoughts into a series of concepts that just blew us away - she just seemed to ‘get’ us and totally nailed the brief, presenting back designs that we would have had no hope of articulating ourselves. She has most artfully blended in different colours and textures to make us rooms that have such distinct ‘feel’, and taken design decisions that we would not have been brave enough to take on our own. Honestly we couldn’t be more happy with the work she has done, the house really feels like our home now. She’s great fun and lovely to work with, and we’re already thinking about the next project for her...”
